Despite the fact today was my day off from work I still had to go in for a skills fair. I don’t mind doing the fair to prove my competency in the skill; I just hate that the fair was on my day off and I live 50 miles away from the hospital. A simple trip in turns into at least a 3 hour ordeal so I try to add a few things to make the trip more palatable. Today turned out to be a perfect day for an “on the way to unwork (?).” While driving through Newberry, a cute little town just west of Gainesville, FL, I saw a sign that read “Art Gallery Now Open.” I talked with friends numerous times about an art gallery in Newberry but this was a first.
The Fire House Gallery & Studio is a small building but the artwork is beautiful. The paintings and photos are all from local artists. Here’s a sampling:
These beautiful paintings are on wood, no need for an additional frame.
The wood worker made the table and bench from wood rescued from the river. Check out the driftwood lamp in the corner. Stunning!
This picture is called “Three Musketeers.”
Stunning Florida landscapes.
No jewelry yet but hopefully I will get a spot there with my silver work. MetalWoodsNWater’s Scrap Metal Art could have a spot there, too, maybe The Baseball or The Triangle .
The gallery is right next door to Newberry Backyard Barbecue. Good thing to do if the restaurant is crowded and there is a line for a table.
