Monday Morning Stuff

Hi, all! Yes, it’s Monday once again. Got plans for today? I am back to work after a week of family fun, grandkids, and creating. I did yoga with my daughter (kept up but couldn’t quite wrap myself into a pretzel like she did), made “Big Bro and Big Sis” T-shirts (tutorial will follow now that I ironed out the wrinkles), made a diaper cake (so cute and so appreciated), and went to a Pomegranate Guild Meeting (Judaic Needle crafters….I am sooo inspired!).

Tin Can Creations

Some time ago I posted a tutorial to make tin can flowers. Well, today I found a few other uses for tin cans (other than the recycle bin).
These creations are from Quilts and Art by Cheryl Check out her blog. She has some great ideas over there. If you do, be sure to tell her I sent you.

                                        This caterpillar is adorable!

Friday's Freebies Christmas Pattern: Santa Wall Hanger

One of the best things about yard saling and thrifting is the cool stuff you get that is totally unexpected. One of my purchases included a loose leaf binder full of vintage magazine clippings. Here’s one of them. It’s a Santa Wall Hanger that looks way too cute to pass up.

The pattern was a freebie with the purchase of Aunt Lydia’s yarn. I’m not sure when it was offered but the rest of the patterns were from the 70’s or before. The pattern uses a gallon bleach bottle (I love recycling), white yarn, moveable eyes or buttons, pipe cleaners, felt, pom pom ball, glue, and cardboard.

The instructions sound pretty easy and Santa looks pretty cute……besides, the holidays will be upon us before we know it.

Friday Freebies Plushies from Pantyhose Patterns

How’s your week going? I’m still going through my stash. At this rate it will take me a few years. Anyway, I found this clipping from Family Circle, 6/21/83 for soft sculpture made from pantyhose I thought I would share. I love recycling and these creations are so cute.

Goofiing Off on the Road

The hubby are on the road again. It seems as if I am always planning a trip or recovering from one.  this time I had the presence of mind to bring lots to do to keep me from getting too bored. I started working on my Viking knit then switched to crochet (with yarn) and worked up a pair of bridal wristlets. Very pretty and lacy. Now I am working on a Sabbath bread cover in an orange cotton yarn.
Earlier this morning the hubby was walking around with his key chain hanging out of his pocket. He made the keychain from a deer antler and a deer tail. When anyone asks he tells the everybody needs a little tail. Well, he sold one. Got paid and got the address to send it off. Very cool.

A Liebster Award Winner

I won an award! Yippee! I received the a Liebster Award from Laura at My Grandma Reads My Blog and I feel honored to be chosen. It was so nice to find someone appreciates my bits and pieces.

Being the nosey  curious person I am, I had to check out the Liebster Award. It seams (got sewing on my mind) that it’s a way of spreading good thoughts and praise about blogs on the web. How cool is that? If you want to learn more about it, check out what this guy has to say: http://1heckofaguy.com/2012/03/16/heck-of-a-guy-wins-liebster-award-3/

Like any other award, there are rules, and here they are:

  1. Thank your Liebster Blog Award presenter on your blog.
  2. Link back to the blogger who presented the award to you.
  3. Copy/paste the blog award on your blog.
  4. Present the Liebster Blog Award to 5 blogs (with 200 followers or less).
  5. Let them know they have been chosen by leaving a comment.

My Picks:

Aerides Designs

Tamdoll’s Workspace

Reuse It, Recycle It, Recreate It

Lather and Lotions

 Just a Stitch Away

There, I did my job. Now to let the good folks know I am passing the award on.

While you’re looking around, check out the new listings in my shops, like PDF patterns and vintage (1950’s with Audrey Hepburn) Playbills.

Free Tatting Flower Pattern

Do you tat? Are you thinking of taking it up? Well, here’s a pattern I found in that old loose leaf notebook I bought at a thrift shop a while back.
scan0016
Cute little white flowers with yellow centers. The pattern originally came from the March, 1979 issue of Better Homes and Gardens. The flowers are oh-so-delicate and sweet. Here’s the pattern as it was in the magazine. It includes abbreviations, a brief history of tatting, and a pattern for the doily, too. Enjoy…..and don’t forget to drop me a line to let me know how the flowers come out. I’d love to hear from you.

Slow Cooker Potatoes and Beans

A while back…November, to be exact, I posted this recipe for beans, ham, and potatoes on my blog. I got a bit of a surprise when I found a very similar recipe posted on Allrecipes.com. The lady changed it a little but it still looked pretty good. Might be a good idea for those leftover ham bones from Easter Sunday dinner.

Here’s the link to my post: http://misseileen-aka-goofingoff.blogspot.com/2011/11/thrifty-crockpot-cooking-taters-n-beans.html  Cheap, easy, and good tasting.

Sorry but I took some time off blogging for a bit to work on some projects. Still working on them but here’s what I’ve done so far:

Doo Rags: Not the most original idea on the planet but good for my biker-gear head-man cave loving hubby. Good way to use up fabric scraps.

Baby Sunbonnets: Had to do these. Just too cute.

Scrappy tote bag: Found this fabric on the way to the trash heap. A true rescue.

I haven’t been a total slacker, just working and refining. Have a happy Easter and Passover everybody!
