Music for Monday: Amanda by Waylon Jennings

I am amazed at the way the sound of a voice can move me and stop me dead in my tracks. Today I heard the magnificent country voice of Waylon Jennings. It instantly brought me back 35 years ago when I heard a collection of his greatest hits. I fell in love with his voice immediately. I carefully recorded the album to a cassette tape so I could listen to it when I drove anywhere. Amanda, written by Bob McDill, was my favorite from the album. His version was a number one song on the country charts in 1979.
For those unfamiliar with his music, he was the voice of the Ballad of the Dukes of Hazzard.

Born To Run

I was driving home the other night when a song came on that evoked a feelings in me. For a brief moment all I could think of was to keep driving to the nearest beach and watch the moon on the water. I took a deep breath and ...smelled the Chinese food in the back I was bringing home for supper.
The magic was all gone but for a brief moment the years melted away and I was young and wild again....before life's lessons tamed my wild spirit.
My friends say I'm a bit crazy and funny with a little bit of bravery thrown in....and for a moment I was, that is until the Chinese food reminded me I had a hungry hubby waiting for dinner and fur babies wondering when I would be home again.
Anyway, enjoy Bruce and feel the spirit...if just for a moment.

Surprise, It’s Graham Nash!

OK, the title is a little misleading. It wasn't Graham Nash, it was an exhibit.
I took a trip to visit my daughter recently along the Jersey Shore. It’s a beautiful place and more to see than Snooki. We took a ride to Stone Harbor and window shopped.
DSC_0555  One of the shops had a Graham Nash exhibit featuring some of his work (you know, of Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young). For those of you not familiar with Graham Nash, he was a member of the band, The Hollies, and then a member of Crosby, Stills, and Nash (that later became Crosby, Stills, Nash, & Young). Some songs he wrote were Marrakesh Express", "Just A Song Before I Go" (1977) later "Wasted on the Way" (1982). He also wrote "Our House" and "Teach Your Children." The exhibit included photos and paintings. Here’s a few of the work in the exhibit.

He didn’t do the vase or the other work in this photo but I had to include them anyway. The vase is incredible.

Down the street was another art market with this jelly fish lamp in the window. Very cool.

Climbing out from Under the Rock and Discovering Music Matisyahu: One Day

Back in August I finished my BSN. This is not a brag, it is just fact. I tend to have an obsessive nature so while I was in school I did little else except study.  I read  few books other than nursing, watched even fewer movies, and listened to hardly any music.  It wasn't that I wasn't interested, school was very intense, especially while working full time and trying to run 3 Etsy shops. The classes came fast and furious, good for me since I get bored easily, but still hard and time consuming.
School took it's toll on me. My husband learned to stay away from me while I was studying and cooked more (maybe a benefit?). One Etsy shop, MissEileen, my very first, is about dead. I had to hire a house keeper (oh, that's a benefit, too). Now that  school is over I feel like I am coming out from under a rock. I read a few books, watched a movie or two when I could grab the remote, and downloaded a few tunes. My friends at work laugh when I tell them the movies I watch since many have been out for years. That's how out of touch I am.
As for the tunes, I found this guy, Matisyahu, on YouTube. He is a Hasid from New York who sings Reggae. He's pretty good so I thought I would share. Makes me think of my youth when I lived in Borough Park, Brooklyn, among the Hasidic communuity. I loved it but that was a long time ago, fodder for another blog post.
Enjoy the music. Is he good or what? I think I have patterns to count.
