On one of my estate-sale excursions, I came upon a stash of nylon stockings. All were beautifully kept, most in the original packages, some in the original box seals still unbroken. As a teen who had to wear nylons I was amazed. Amazed they stood the test of time and made me start thinking of the days before pantyhose. For those of you born in the mid-70’s or later, stockings are the things seen on Mad Men or Pan Am, or in an old movie with attached at the mid thigh oh-so-seductively by garters. Stockings were a required part of a woman’s wardrobe. Dresses were commonplace (the pantsuit didn’t become truly accepted until the late 60’s or early 70’s) and pantyhose weren’t invented yet.
There were a few rules to keep when it came to stockings, such as nail polish, never throw out one if another is torn (you’ll probably need it later), and always wash stockings by hand.

This is a beer mug that was made in Germany. Stout little guy, looks like he had one beer too many. He’d look anatomically correct if his nose and cheeks were red. 
A beautiful tray with rimmed in silver with pheasants on the actual tray. The pheasants look lovely. 
Hand crocheted pinwheel design bedspread. Beautiful. Full size but looks good on the queen size bed.
Gorgeous yellow chenille bedspread. Check out the flowers! Stunning! Another full size (quite common from years ago). The spread is in excellent condition. 
White chenille bedspread. No stains but not in as good condition. Tufts are worn. Could be useful for other things. Also in full size. 
Well, after all this time I finally got Dan to stop at estate sales. He still doesn't look for the signs but he will stop so I can check out the deals. Well, I found some incredible deals at a weekend sale. Vintage Vogue patterns (always love vintage patterns), beautiful old buttons, and gloves, lots of them. What wonderful finds! Here's a few:

I have an addiction to patterns. Must be an addiction. I think about patterns whenever I see a yard or estate sale and my heart skips a beat when I see them. I just love Vogue patterns (especially Vintage Vogue OOOOOhhhh) and the vintage patterns from the 40's, 50's, and 60's with the illustrations of pouty faced women or pudgy cheeked children. I get all fluttery inside. I feel the same way about the knitting and crochet patterns from the 40's and 50's. The patterns are usually in such rough shape from use but every so often you find patterns from a wanna-do, you know, the person who wants-to-do but never has the time? Yes, like me. I have the knitting needles but I don't knit. I know how. I just don't do it. The sewing machine is ready and threaded but it gets less action than my treadmill/clothes hanger.
Oh, well at least the addiction won't hurt my lungs or rot my teeth. I just need to make sure I have a room big enough for them.
